Byzantine Maritime Corp. also operates decentralised fleet management office based in USA. The office is structured to manage a number of vessels for owners in their immediate geographic area. BMC recruits it’s fleet through a separate manning office based in Philippines. The office is responsible for recruiting, training and career development of all BMC seagoing staff.

 

Brief History


Byzantine Maritime Corporation commenced operation in the early 1970's and since that time they have maintained a medium to small sized bulkcarrier fleet which serviced it's clients mainly in the North American grain trades. International Chartering Services, Inc., (ICS) and Byzantine Maritime Corporation (BMC) have maintained an exclusive client/principal relationship for over 30 years which commenced in 1976.

 

ICS as the exclusive brokers for BMC, are pleased to announce the addition of 6 Newbuildings from the world renowned builders IHI at Yokahama, 4 of which are to be delivered in 2008 and the balance in 2010. These FUTURE 56 type bulkers represent the latest in main engine efficiency for improved speed/fuel efficiency, cargo handling with IHI 35 ton cranes and grabs via the 14.0 CBM grabs manufacturered by Peiner SMAG.

 

These vessels are the culmination of the collective operating experience over the past 30 years where BMC grew from a small handy sized operator to a mixed size bulker operation with handies, handymaxes, panamaxes and capes. The goal then was to cover the collective requirements of their cargo clients in the various North American trades as well as expanding into worldwide markets, including an operating company for fertilizer imports into Brazil, South Carrier Navigation Corp.

 

This goal resulted in a wealth of experience which pointed BMC towards expansion into the SUPRAMAX type vessels that were ordered for delivery commencing in 2008. Currently BMC has disposed of all of its older vessel assets in anticipation of taking delivery of these IHI designed vessels.
